Insulin Antibodies in Non-insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus Before Insulin Treatment

Abstract
Many investigators measured insulin antibody in patients with type I DM before insulin treatment as a marker of type I DM. But there was no reports about insulin antibody in patients with type II DM before insulin treatment.
To detect the presence of insulin antibody in type II DM and the different pathogenic mechanisms in two type of type II DM, we measured insulin antibodies in 24 patients with type Ha DM, 29 patients with types Jib DM, 34 patients with Graves¢¥ disease and 13 normal persons.
The mean values of insulin antibody binding ratios (B/T %) were 3.99¡¾0.66% in normal control group, 4.75¡¾1.23% in type Ila DM, 5.48¡¾3.36% in type IIb DM, and 5.49¡¾0.91% in Graves¢¥ disease group. The insulin antibody binding ratios higher than 7% were regarded as the presence of insulin antibodies.
Insulin antibody positive rates were 2 of 24 patients with type Ila DM (8%), 3 of 29 patients with type IIb DM (10.3%), 1 of 34 patients with Graves¢¥ disease (2.9%), But none was positive in normal controls.
Although we could not find any statistically significant difference in insulin antibody positive rates between patients with type Ha DM and type IIb DM (z=0.29<1.96), insulin antibodies were detected in some patients with both type of types II DM.
